Crossing Guards celebrated
Crossing guards recognized for keeping children safe
Crossing Guards Lynn Luzzi and Connie Catalano walked onto the stage in the King Street Elementary School auditorium to thunderous applause. The entire school community, from students and staff, had gathered to offer a special thank you to some oft unsung heroes.
Wearing their easily recognizable yellow vests, the women were presented with a gift card and bouquet of flowers. Most importantly, they were thanked for the work they do every day to ensure students get to school safely.
“The work they do keeps you all safe and we want to say thank you,” Principal Sam Ortiz said.
“With all the traffic we have in the village, I can’t stress enough the importance of safety,” Sgt. Mike Spizzirri of the Port Chester Police Department said. “The crossing guards presence can help to put parents minds at ease.”
The honors were presented by the King Street PTA.
“These are the two best guards in the village,” Sgt. Spizzirri said.
Ms. Luzzi has been working as a crossing guard for eight years and Ms. Catalano for nine.
Both women agreed it was the children they see every day they most enjoy about their jobs.
