Students enjoy their monthly walk
Monthly walks for some fresh air, time to think
A walk of Thanksgiving
The weather was a stark contrast to the storm that crippled the region days earlier, and students and staff at Park Avenue Elementary School took advantage of the sunshine and temperatures near 50 degrees.
Each month students take a few minutes to step outside and take a short walk. Each walk has a theme and Principal Rosa Taylor said the November event served as a reminder to remember veterans who served our country and to give thanks as Thanksgiving approached. Students are encouraged to reflect on the different themes as they are moving along.
“It really is about mindfulness,” Ms. Taylor said.
Walks are led by different staff members and on Nov. 19, Coach John Cafaldo, who teaches physical education, led the students.
The walks are short, with participants keeping to the sidewalks that traverse the playing fields behind nearby Port Chester High School.
Ms. Taylor said the entire school participates whenever possible.
“It creates a sense of community,” she said of the walks.
They are also an opportunity for students to get some fresh air, a bit of exercise and some time with friends in the midst of their school day. The walks are held at various times, some in the morning, others in the afternoon.
