Area All-State 2019
Nine Musical PCHS Students Selected for Area All-State
Port Chester High School’s choral director Linda Ventura knows a talent when she sees it. All nine of the students that she recommended for Area All-State were accepted to perform in the Area All-State Festival Concert.
The students were selected based on their New York State School Music Association scores and were competing against other musicians from throughout Westchester County. They will perform with other standout instrumentalists and singers on Nov. 7.
“It’s a really fun opportunity for us,” said Lindsey Co, a member of the mixed choir who was selected to perform in the Area All-State chorus. “You are together with like-minded musicians. You all have the same objective.”
For their auditions, everyone had to learn a specific piece, which consisted of sight reading, said Molly Brakewood, an Area All-State band member. The instrumentalists also had to learn scales.
All of those selected to Area All-State will participate in a rehearsal on Oct. 23 and in the early part of the day on Nov. 7. That evening, they will perform the concert.
Among those selected are:
Area All-State Band—Callie Schultz, Clarinet, Noah Rotfeld, French Horn, Molly Brakewood, Trumpet
Area All-State Orchestra—Chelsea Reyes, Violin
Area All-State Chorus (Mixed Choir) — Nicholas Arnel, Brandon Ramos, Francesca La Dore, Jasmine Torres, Lindsey Co, Emalie Madiera
Area All-State (Treble Choir)—Faith Tomasula and Sophia Reis
The Area All-State Festival Concert will be performed on Nov. 7, at 8 p.m. at the SUNY Purchase Performing Arts Center.
