Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE)

Transitional Bilingual Education Programs are for students who speak Spanish as a home language and have the opportunity to learn to speak, understand, read, and write in English while continuing to learn academic content in their home language. Spanish is used to help students progress academically in all content areas while they acquire English. The goal of this program is to provide students with the opportunity to transition to a monolingual English classroom setting without additional support once they reach proficiency. This program is for English Language Learners (ELLs) only and is designed to support students who are not yet proficient in English and/or may be struggling in their home language.

This program is available at the following schools:

  • Thomas A. Edison Elementary School (Grades K-3)
  • John F. Kennedy Elementary School (Kindergarten)
  • Port Chester Middle School
  • Port Chester High School
