ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
I. PURPOSE
The purpose of the Port Chester School
District Internet/Electronic Mail initiative is to improve professional
communication, provide access to information, and support the school district's
educational objectives.
As electronic communications increase, it
is important that the use of the Internet and e-mail promote our established
systems and do not replace normal face to face or phone communication. All
messages should be appropriate in keeping with educational communication:
polite and. to the point. Internet access is coordinated through a complex
association of government .agencies and regional networks. The operation of the
Internet relies. heavily on the proper conduct of the users;. who must adhere
to .strict guidelines. Internet access is a privilege, not a right. The
district reserves the right to oversee and monitor the use of . computers
without notification or permission of the user. If a user violates any of the
acceptable use provisions outlined in this document, his/her access may be
terminated and future access may be denied. Some violations may also constitute
a criminal offense and may result in legal action. Any user violating
provisions of local, state and federal laws or district policies is subject to
loss of access privileges and other district disciplinary options.

ACCEPTABLE USE
- The transmission and receipt of
e-mail messages for administrative and educational purposes
- When logging. on to the district
system, only the name and password. of the individual accessing the system
must be used.
- E-mail and Internet use must be in
support of education and research consistent with district policy
- E-mail and Internet use must be
consistent with the rules appropriate to any I network being used
- Unauthorized
use of copyrighted material is prohibited
III. UNACCEPTABLE USE
- Personal use of the district e-mail system
is prohibited at all times.
- Personal use of the Internet is prohibited
all times
- Threatening .or obscene .language
material is promised. A visitation to inappropriate web sites (i.e.:
sexual, pornographic, violence, etc.) is prohibited.
- Distribution or duplication of
material protected by trade secret is prohibited. .Use for commercial
activities is not acceptable.
- E-mail that contains references to a
person's race, color, religion, sex, age, , national origin, sexual
orientation, disabilities or physique is prohibited.
- Product advertisement or political
lobbying is prohibited
- Access to chat rooms is prohibited
unless for an educational purpose
- The user must not read, delete, copy
or modify electronic mail messages of others
- Attempts
to log on as another user may result in cancellation of privileges. .Unauthorized
use of district computers by people outside the district is prohibited
IV. PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
- The use of the Internet and e-mail
must promote and advance educational goals in the district. All
communications must conform to high standards of good taste, ethics, and
professional behavior
- Be polite!
- Do not use language that is vulgar, obscene
or that offends or degrades others.
- Do not intentionally disrupt the network or
other users
- Do not reveal your user password or allow
another person to use your password

IMPORTANT CAUTI0NS
- Electronic mail is not 'guaranteed to be
private. Material sent outside the school district can be further
circulated without.
- approval;
users should compose communications accordingly.
- E-mail sent over the Internet is not 100% secure (similar to a
fax). It is possible for other Internet users to read e-mails passing over
the Internet. Consequently, documents or other electronic messages should
not be sent over-.the Internet if they are at all sensitive, unless they
are encrypted. E-mail that is
deleted can be recovered at a future time if necessary.
VI. VANDALISM/HARASSMENT
- Transmitting material, information or
software in violation of any district policy or regulation, local, state
or federal law or regulation, is prohibited.
- Vandalism and/or harassment will result in
the cancellation of the offending user's .access
- Vandalism is defined as any malicious
attempt to hurt or destroy data of another user, the Internet or other
networks. This includes, but is not limited to, creating and/or uploading
computer viruses
- Harassment is defined as a persistent
annoyance of another user or the interference in another user's work. This
includes, but is not limited to, the sending of unwanted mail
- Any malicious attempt to harm or destroy
district equipment or materials, data of another user of the district’s
system or any of the agencies or other networks that are connected to
Internet will result in cancellation of system use privileges.
- This malicious behavior includes, but is
not limited to, the uploading or creating of computer viruses and or
unauthorized programs

Vll. OWNERSHIP
- A11 communications and stored
information using the Port Chester Public Schools network are the property
of the Port Chester Public Schools and are subject to review and
disclosure without notice.
- Copies
of all passwords and password changes must be filed with Central
Administration.

PENALTIES
- Any user violating these provisions,
applicable state and federal laws or district policies and regulations is
subject to loss of network privileges and any other district .disciplinary
options, including criminal prosecution
The Port Chester Public Schools believe
that the benefits to employees from access to e-mail and the Internet, in the form.
of information resources and opportunities for collaboration, require strict
compliance to the above Acceptable Use Policy.

Employee Internet
User Agreement
I have read, understand and agree to abide by the Port
Chester-Rye Union Free School District Acceptable Internet Use Policy. I
further understand that any violation of this Acceptable Internet Use Policy is
unethical and may constitute a criminal offense. Should I commit any violation,
my access privileges may be revoked, district disciplinary action and/or
appropriate legal action may be taken.
After reading the Port Chester-Rye Union Free School
District Acceptable Internet Use Policy, please complete this form to indicate
that you agree with the terms and conditions outlined. The signatures of
all/each employee(s) are mandatory before Internet access may be granted.
As a user of the Port Chester-Rye Union Free School District
